ipods in instruction

I found some information on Duke and ipod's on http://www.csmonitor.com. Duke university was awarded a grant to give all incoming freshman ipod's. All incoming freshman were provided with their own twenty gigabyte ipod, and some upperclassmen. By the spring Duke had to cut back on its ipod giveaways and changed the next fall to only students that were enrolled into classes that the ipod had direct use. There were teachers as well as students that were very excited about the ipod's.

About seventy-five percent of students surveyed said that they used their ipods for academic work. Some popular uses of ipod were recording lectures, taking oral notes, and creating electronic flash cards. There were reports of professors saying that students seemed more engaged in the classes that they could use ipod's. One proffesor called ipod's glorified tape recorders, but said that the advantages were clear.

The in class exercises are something that I feel that I could effectively use as a teacher. These exercises provide various tutorials as well as presentations. This would be very effective with classes being that students can use these tutorials as needed. Students can also practice other things that they might need help in.

The exercises also provide a way to bring some variety to learning. I think that being able to learn in different ways keeps things interesting. Also the tutorials might explain certain things in a way which the students can understand them better. I feel that using these would be a huge success.

I think that wikipedia can be trusted to a certain extent. The fact that people can change things on wikipedia at freewill makes me kind of skeptical. I have however used wikipedia for the research of some things, and it was very helpful. Overall I do feel that wikipedia can be trusted to research certain things not all.
