K-12 blogs

In 2005 Goochland county schools launched division wide teacher and student blogging. For the 2008-09 school year they introduced Teacher blogs 2.0. They have links to each teachers blog by grade area and subject level on each school's website. At http://blogs.glnd.k12.va.us/teachers/ you can find links to each school's website, a big list of blogs, and also information on hot to use the blogs. Their intentions are for parents and students to use blogs to stay informed.

At Randolph Elementary school Mrs. Wickens has a blog for her first grade class. On her blog she has things such as assignments for each subject, upcoming events and lunch menus. She is using her blog as a communication tool between her, parents and students. There is also a section on the blog that shows day to day events as well. Her blog is very well put togehter she has a lot of information that is very important for parents to be aware of.

Fischbowl

The did you know movie was very informative as well as shocking. The statistics about the amount of users over the web shows just how fascinating technology is. The world is moving fast and with a lot of intelligence. The percentage of four year old children that have used a computer is a really intriguing thought to me.

With the prediction of China being the leader of people speaking the English shows how widespread things are. Also the number of college graduates around the world should set us up for a pretty bright future. The predicted number of jobs that today's learners will have is so very non-traditional it is almost hard to believe.

ACCESS

Alabama Connecting Classrooms, Educators, and Students Statewide is an educational program known as ACCESS. ACCESS was implemented to provide access to high quality instruction and coursework not provided in Alabama. This instruction and coursework will be provided via the internet and Alabama teachers certified as E-teachers. Some of the objectives of ACCESS are to provide access to advanced diploma services, additional course offerings, and provide teachers with additional multimedia and technology tools to enhance instruction.

The services and equipment provided is determined by the school system and the Alabama Department of Education based on school needs and requirements, the technical specification required by ACCESS guidelines and grant funding. Act#2005-173 was passed by the Alabama Legislature, to appropriate initial funds to develop and begin ACCESS. Funding for 12 additional sites was obtained by the Alabama Department of Education from a federal grant awarded by the Appalachian Regional Commission.

I think that the ACCESS program will be great for me when I start teaching. I feel that with ACCESS will help expand students learning as well as mine. ACCESS will help to advance many teachers and students to higher levels.

ALEX

Alabama Learning Exchange which is referred to as ALEX is a website that is available to educators. On this website it provides guidelines for teaching on each subject matter for every grade level in the Courses of Study section. There are web links for teachers, administrators, and students to search found on ALEX. These web links are in various categories including but not limited to areas of study. ALEX also has a lesson plan section where you can search for lesson plans many different ways.

The professional workspace section of ALEX allows teachers to store and submit lesson plans and teacher web pages. The professional learning section is where Alabama Department of Education Program Websites are found that have various helpful items for teaching. The ACCESS DISTANCE LEARNING link provides learning opportunities for students statewide. The search ALEX/Thinkfinity database allows the search of various categories.

I feel that ALEX will be of great assistance to me when I begin teaching. There will be a lot of things that I know that I will need guidance on, and I feel that ALEX will provide me with some of that guidance. The ability to be able to create, save, and search for lesson plans is a great tool to have. The Courses of Study Link is also something that I think will be of very good use for me.
