My EDM 310 Blog Assignments are Now Complete

I cannot believe that the semester is over, but I am glad another one down and another step closer to our goal congratulations on the completion of another semseter and good luck to ALL!!!

EDM Class Experience

Google Documents The only that I had ever even used google for was to search for things. I did not even know that google documents existed, and certainly not all of the other other things along with it. I am glad that I learned these things, and I will probably use them in the future.

Blogging As I stated in a prior blog I had heard of blogging, but I really did not know what it was. I really liked the blogging topics that we had I learned a lot and it also made me think.

Presentations I had fun doing my presentation and it was also pretty neat learning about my classmates and their interest. That was definitely an aspect of google that I had no idea about.

ALEX I think that this a really good program for teachers and students and I will support it in any way that I can.

Podcast This is definitely something that I had seen, but did not understand. Not only did I have the chance to listen to them, but actually doing one was pretty cool.

Twitter

I still have not really got into twitter. I did not log into it as I should have outside of class. I think that if I put forth more of an effort I might like it a little more.

I do not see how twitter can be effective as a teaching tool or being used in a classroom. Personally I see twitter as more of a social and fun thing rather than for education purposes. That is just in my opinion then again as I said earlier I did not really spend a lot of time trying to figure it out.

I might, but doubt very seriously that I will try to figure out twitter. I honestly do not see twitter as a tool that will be used in my future. To all that use and enjoy twitter I wish you the best, but I do not see its purpose as a classroom tool.

EDM Podcasts

I think that the podcast that I participated in went fairly well. The part that I could have elaborated on as Dr. Strange pointed would have made it better. Overall I think that we did a good job our third member was not present, and I think that had he been there to share some of his experiences, and knowledge of you tube could have helped it to go better as well.

One of the podcast that I listened to was good as far as information, but not very well executed as a team. I think that might have been from lack of preparation. As far as the subject matter the point was well clarified.

In the other podcast that I listened to a person or two seemed a little nervous. I think this may have helped with the podcast not being dominated by two people in the group. It was done very well besides that problem.

Classroom Blogging

I have viewed others blogs and have found some to be very interesting and some actually along the same thought process of my own. It is very interesting seeing all of the different view points that are expressed on the various different topics. First I thought that having everyone blog about the same thing would have a lot of the same thoughts which some are but there are many different interpretations of things.

I had heard of blogging prior to this class, but I did not really know what it was all about. I have found that blogging can be used for many different things. Blogging is a tool that can be used for business as well as personal uses.

I think that blogging in class is effective, but being that I am a P.E. major I do not know if I will be able to incorporate that into what I do. With that said technology is an amazing thing and the world is always changing so who knows. Trying to come up with ways to incorporate blogging as a P.E. teacher could be a challenge of mine maybe I will take this on.

Stanford Challenge

These podcasts are discussing mindsets and how they are in different people. It is said that the first mindset is basic intelligence is a fixed trait. With this fixed trait a person believes that they can achieve intelligence by staying in school, and a studying a lot. The second mindset is growth and that the brain is a muscle that gets stronger with use.

This was a really great podcast that teachers and students can learn a lot from. With this exercises could be done to see what type of mindsets students and teachers have. This podcasts was great and could be used in many different ways and could be built upon with more research. I feel that this podcasts was very interesting and a lot t be learned from it.

WGBH/iTunesU

WGBH provides great videos for students on all levels. They are very well classed as they are K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. There are many great videos that are appropriate for each level not too advanced for the lower levels and vice versa. The videos are not too long so students will not get off track and lose focus.

These videos are great especially for high school students who may not particularly like listening to teachers talk all of the time. It is important to keep students interested and this being on all levels, because this can make or break some students. Teaching with technology can be very helpful because of today's interest that a lot students have in technology.

Edutopia

Edutopia is a site with collective information as to what works in public education. The Edible Schoolyard video is about the kids at Martin Luther King Jr. Middle School in California actually doing hands on learning. The children actually had total interaction with their projects and related it to their subjects. The other podcasts was really interesting to me because it showed the children what it was like living in a poverty stricken situation.

These types of podcasts and or videos provide great ideas, and different varieties of doing things. This helps with teaching as well as learning because students get kind of bored with the same old things everyday. Anytime that a different perspective of things is brought about it makes people think or at least it should. These podcasts can be used for many different positive aspects of teaching.

Podcasts are very resourceful in teaching and learning because they can accessed whenever you need them. Teachers can learn things as well as students while using podcasts. Podcasts are great sources of information and in my opinion will only get better.

iTunes university

iTunes university is a mobile learning tool that is great for learning. It can be accessed through iphones, ipods, and computers. With iTunes university many different subjects can be explored, and it is free. iTunes university there are over 100,000 educational videos that can be viewed or accessed through audio.

I feel that this could be a big help to students in today's technological sound world. If a student does not clearly understand something, or just wants to learn more about a particular subject this is a great tool. Also with this available to students they can view or listen at their own pace. This also could be used in a classroom setting to teach some things while in class.
